Every decision is based on a comparison; the goods and the bads. From choosing a partner, to purchasing a home, to picking an outfit, to choosing new windows for your home. Everything involves a comparison of some sort: affordability, look, ease, benefit, cost, etc.
The team at The Screen Shop gets it. You see, in our industry, we are constantly helping our customers weigh-out what’s most important, what doesn’t matter, and what is of little importance before they jump into a home project. And, these days, we find ourselves looking into vinyl window options with our clients, often. Here’s what we discuss before moving forward!
Vinyl Windows – PROS
There’s a lot to look forward to with vinyl windows in San Jose, CA. Who wouldn’t be excited about adding clearer views to our scenery?
- Vinyl frames are one of the most economical products on the market these days.
- They are lightweight which makes for easier installation (which can positively affect the cost).
- Pre-colored; which means low maintenance. No staining or painting necessary.
- Vinyl is a good insulator.
- Vinyl’s look and affordability make it an excellent choice for modern homes, house flips, first-time homeowners, window replacement, contemporary and traditional designs, and preparing for resale.
- Easy maintenance! Keeping your vinyl windows looking like new is so much easier than with other materials. A damp cloth is all you need to make these windows look like new again, a couple times a year.
Vinyl Windows – CONS
Now, keep in mind that the cons/”negatives” associated with vinyl windows are matter of opinion and compatibility:
- If you live in a historic home (more than 100 years old), vinyl is not typically a preferred choice if you want to maintain the aesthetics of the exterior and interior.
- Some do not care for the appearance of vinyl because it’s not as authentically “natural” as wood. Most of these people, however, may not be familiar with modern options available today, which include wood grain and wood stains.
- Vinyl is a lightweight product. So, in general, the frames themselves are a bit thicker than other materials. This, to some, is less favorable.
- They’re pre-colored (mentioned as a “prom” earlier). Some homeowners like the change the stain and color of their window frames every so often. With many vinyl windows, not only is this not necessary—but it may not always be possible.
So, what do you think? If you need durable windows which are affordable, easy to maintain, energy efficient, long-lasting, and beautiful—give the team here at The Screen shop a call.
