I’m single. I’m in my late twenties. And, I just bought my first home. Well, I should say I just bought my first home for my cat and me. That’s right—I’m an aspiring Crazy Cat Lady and I’m proud of it.
My cat, Ralph, took to this new space like a champ. There are all sorts of perfect hiding places for him. This 1940s home is full of built-ins and ledges, small closets (not my favorite feature), and high-end spaces he can navigate. I, however, immediately wanted to address the windows.
You see, all of the windows in this house are screen-less. I can’t have that. I need screens, so I can open the windows without Ralph escaping!
And, I’m pretty sure if Ralph could speak, he’d tell you he’d prefer the fresh air and the clear sounds of the birds outside!
Anyway, I’m new to the San Jose area. Naturally, I didn’t want to simply Google for a window company. I asked around—people are generally good for pointing you in the right direction! Hands down, the majority at my new job and in my new neighborhood mentioned The Screen Shop.
Boy, were they right! I just ordered the most amazing windows from them! And, screens to go with, as well as screens for the windows I’m keeping.
Project day is set for next week, and I can’t wait. Here’s what I’m doing:
Replacing the old bay window
The Screen Shop was able to reproduce a match to the existing—but worn out—bay window in the master bedroom. The only difference is that the frame is slimmer, which just means more sunlight for me (and Ralph)!
Screens galore
The prices at The Screen Shop are even better than the major chain stores. I was able to afford screens for all twelve windows in the home! Plus, since this house is older, it has oddly-sized windows; not a problem with the pros at The Screen Shop. So grateful for that! Oh, Ralph is going to be so excited to hear the birds taunting him!
Glazing options
There’s one side of this house that get slammed by the setting sun. It just gets hot. I didn’t know that before I moved in. During my visit with the experts at The Screen Shop, I learned all about the glass glazing options they have to help with this issue. These aid in blocking the sun’s hot rays with minimal impact on the amount of light let in.
Single pane window replacement
For whatever reason, the spare room has one window that is single-paned. I don’t know if this was overlooked by accident by the previous owners or what—but that has to go. I’ve custom-ordered a matching replacement. Man, I’m excited about making this home more energy efficient!
The team at The Screen Shop is the best. I felt so comfortable with them and learned a lot. Being single and doing this whole window upgrade in San Jose, CA is so much easier than I anticipated. You can do it, too! Give them a call!
