Before we get started on your home, let’s go over a few popular home styles and match them with the perfect windows from The Screen Shop!

  1. Country
Personally, I am partial to country style homes. Though, they aren’t the most prevalent here in San Jose! You see, I grew up in a country home—big family, sizable yard, and a half wrap-around porch that connected the front step to the side of the home, near our kitchen. Beautiful! Windows for Country homes: single- or double-hung windows with grilles.
  2. Contemporary
This style home is the wave of the present and the future. They have made a significant comeback since the 1960s and 1970s, for sure! Windows for Contemporary homes: large picture windows, geometric shapes, and slider windows.
  3. Adobe Revival
Otherwise known as mud brick, this style home is widely used around the world. And, it’s been around since 8th Century BC. Pretty neat! Here in San Jose, our culture is quite influenced by South American traditions and I, for one, am in love with this home style and grateful it stuck around! Windows for Adobe Revival homes: single- or double-hung windows without grilles.
  4. Victorian
Hailing from the reign of Queen Victoria from the late 1830a into 1901, this style home is regal, stately, ornate, and stunning. This home generally has a terrace, brick or stone, and detailed trim. Windows for Victorian homes: bay windows, custom single-hung windows with arched top panes or double-hung with ornate frames to create an arched look.
  5. Tuscan
Ah, Central Italy right here in Sunny Cal. I love these homes, with their stone and wood and wrought iron and tiles… This style is rustic. It’s stylish. The simple, clean lines keep everything looking so mature and versatile. Windows for Tuscan homes: picture windows, awning, and casement.
  6. Traditional
Traditional style homes encompass a large group of various styles. A few things they have in common: they seem to fit with any décor, any yard size, and virtually any color. Typically, traditional homes have a chimney and 1-3 levels (remember the memorable split-level homes of the 1980s and 1990s?). Windows for Traditional homes: slider, double-hung, casement, and picture.
